Empowering individuals through vocational rehabilitation

This program provides job readiness training, personal and social adjustment, life skills training, job search, job placement, and community access. Currently, we contract with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) and Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).

Blake’s House of Independence is a vocational rehabilitation center. We are a non- profit organization that provides assistance with job readiness training, personal and social adjustment, life skills training, job search, job placement, and community access. Currently, we contract with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). Our goal is to assist our clients by empowering them to build careers and become a viable part of the workforce.

Our program focuses on adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who are transitioning into a fully independent and productive life. We build on the uniqueness of each individual to acquire skills for daily living at home, work, recreation, leisure, and socialization. Blake’s House of Independence offers many services that aid in the transition into the workforce, including job readiness training, job placement, and job training/coaching.

Services Provided

Work Evaluation

Our trainers and case managers evaluate individuals’ strengths and assess their performance, needs, and abilities. Job training and career path are then customized based on the individual’s strengths and goals.

Customize Employment

This individualizes the employment relationship between employees and employers in ways that meet the needs of both. “Customized” implies that the work experiences are created, carved or negotiated for the individual client based upon their needs, strengths and interests.

Community Work Adjustment

This assists the client in developing or re-establishing acceptable work habits and behaviors at a work site that is integrated in the community in order to obtain/or retain employment. Community Work adjustment takes place at a work site that is integrated into the community. Instruction/feedback is provided by a supervisor to assist the client in developing or re-establishing acceptable work habits and behaviors in order to obtain and/or retain employment.

Personal & Social Adjustment

Helping clients to achieve socially responsible behavior, independence, problem-solving skills, effective communication skills, and good interpersonal skills.

Job Readiness Training

This prepares our clients to get, keep and excel at a new job, utilizing basic employability skills, including effective communication, problem-solving, resume building, and interviewing.

Job Coaching

Training by an approved specialist to help the employee learn to perform job tasks to the employer’s specifications and to learn the interpersonal skills necessary to maintain employment. Job coaching includes related assessment, job development, counseling, advocacy, and other services, as needed.

Our Job Coaches, Job Counselors, and Employment Specialists have 5+ years of experience in their individual fields. Great care goes into helping our clients be job-ready, find a great job that will fit, and help them to sustain their employment.

Supported Employment

Our trainers and case managers develop and implement a job search plan to obtain competitive employment in an integrated community setting that is based on the individual’s strengths, preferences, abilities, and needs. An individual may participate in Supported Employment if they:

  • Meet all eligibility criteria for VR services
  • Meet the requirements for most significantly disabled
  • Supported Employment has been identified as an appropriate rehabilitation objective for the individual and they have documented need for both ongoing support or extended services in order to work in competitive integrated employment

Opportunity Work Credit

  • The Disabled Access Credit -Annual tax credit for making your business accessible to persons with disabilities and can be used for a variety of costs relating to employees and customers with special needs.
  • The Work Opportunity Credit -Provides a tax credit of up to 40% of the first $6000 for first-year wages of a “differently abled” employee.
